Paul’s education in human movement began at age 7 – he practiced martial arts throughout his childhood, boasts a black belt in karate, and is on course to earning his brown belt in Brazilian Jujitsu.
After a few years spent in the military, followed by some serious searching for his true vocation, Paul became a certified STOTT PILATES® instructor. As a proud ambassador of that brand, he ultimately achieved Lead Instructor Trainer status with the Merrithew Heath & Fitness Group, and was instrumental in expanding the brand across the Middle East region. Paul hails from Manchester in the UK and has lived in Dubai for the past 15 years.
Forever curious and passionate, the next few years unfolded to the rhythm of several fortunate encounters with leading fascia and biotensegrity experts such as Leon Chaitow, John Sharkey, and Judith Delany. These experiences inspired Paul to become an Advanced Neuromuscular Therapist (European and American Neuromuscular Therapy) and a Medical Exercise Specialist in chronic pain and rehabilitation – graduating in 2009 from the National Training Center in Dublin, Ireland.
Paul is dedicated to remaining at the forefront of 21st century anatomy and physiology, and to sharing his knowledge, experience, and insights with his clients, students, and other learners. His background, education, and training have allowed him to develop a customized approach to movement education and rehabilitation. As owner of Paul Thornley Sports Research & Consultancies based in Dubai, UAE, he is the creator of the Myofascia Pilates and the Myofascia Movement Education modalities. He is an international presenter and teaches fascial movement and living-tensegrity-in-motion concepts around the world. With his colleague Joanne Avison, he is co-creator of the Myofascial Magic in Action course with its powerful 5 Rs movement sequence.
