Assessing Neck Pain and Dysfunction

*Please note that the video replay will be available the day after the webinar.

Horses are often diagnosed with neck pain and dysfunction, but the exact cause may be difficult to identify. The pain can originate from soft tissues (myofascial, joint capsule), articulations, or the nervous system itself via nerve irritation within the intervertebral foramen. In this webinar, Dr. Haussler will review the anatomy and biomechanical features of the cervical and cervicothoracic region in horses and discuss how best to assess pain, stiffness, muscle atrophy, and altered proprioception in affected horses. Common pathologic conditions will also be presented. Treatment options will include an overview of medical and surgical approaches, with a focus on the use of manual therapies and management of the primary rehabilitation issues associated with neck pain and dysfunction.
